His first album, self-titled Jackson Browne, in 1972 included two top 40 hits, “Doctor, My Eyes” and “Rock Me on the Water”, propelling the budding musician to greater heights. Two of the songs became Top 40 hits, “Running on Empty” and “The Load-Out/Stay”, while many other tunes became popular on AOR radio.

Jackson Browne went on to have even more success in the 1980s, with his 1980 album Hold Out being his first number 1 record, a non-album single “Somebody’s Baby” in the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High and the Lawyers in Love released from 1983 that saw the hit single “Tender Is the Night”.

In 1986, he released Lives in the Balance, featuring some radio plays and the reflective song “In the Shape of a Heart”, triggered by the suicide of his first wife a decade before. Unfortunately, none of his later albums hit gold or platinum status according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

However, two greatest hits collections came out, The Next Voice You Hear The Best of Jackson Browne in 1997, and The Very Best of Jackson Browne, which was launched with his installation into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
